You may be aware that as we age, our bones begin to loose calcium and become more porous. This can result in a gradual forward rounding of the upper spine as the vertebra weaken and collapse. They can also fracture, causing pain and reduced movement. If you’ve been told that you have low bone density, a spinal compression fracture or have some of the risk factors for osteoporosis, you should consider joining this special program. Those at risk are: Caucasian or Asian post-menopausal females, those with low estrogen or testosterone levels, inadequate calcium and vitamin D consumption, tobacco and alcohol users.

• You’ll learn exercises that can improve your flexibility, strength, balance and posture.
• You’ll learn to implement strategies to increase your bone density, thereby preventing the onset of osteoporotic changes. • A comprehensive treatment program like this has been shown to prevent the falls that may lead to fractures in people with bone loss. You’ll participate in a medically supervised exercise program that includes: • Postural correction, sometimes incorporating hands-on therapy techniques to stretch and mobilize tight connective tissue • Specific strength and flexibility exercises, often using specialized equipment developed for treating osteoporotic conditions • Balance and gait training to maximize stability and prevent falls • The use of better body mechanics during daily activities • Treatment includes consultation with a Registered Dietitian to help you make the nutritional changes necessary to slow the osteoporotic process. • You’ll learn how to make the lifestyle changes needed to prevent further problems.
