Is this program for you?

If you have developed sudden dizziness, a feeling of spinning, unsteadiness, or imbalance, it may be from a vestibular disorder. The vestibular system is a part of the inner ear that helps maintain balance by providing your brain with information about changes in head movement.

If you have a vestibular problem, you may have learned to carry out your daily activities by avoiding changes in head and body movement, since these movements aggravate your symptoms of dizziness. However, this behavior may actually decrease your ability to adjust to your problem and may ultimately make your symptoms worse.

You owe it to yourself to look into this special program so you can begin to regain your equilibrium and put your bad days behind you.

How this program can help you

• Research has shown there are effective treatments including specific exercises to help you overcome or compensate for your problem. You will find out what is best for you.

• You may have developed headaches, muscle stiffness and generalized fatigue due to limiting your head movement. You may also have a difficult time relaxing. We can help you overcome these problems.

Your vestibular problem will be evaluated and treated at the Human Performance Center (HPC) by Diane Barrickman, a physical therapist who has completed Advanced Certification in the evaluation and treatment of vestibular disorders.

• Diane’s evaluation will determine your specific impairments and functional limitations using state-of-the-art testing equipment and techniques. She will establish your individualized plan of care to include the most appropriate therapeutic maneuvers or treatments.

• Diane will then provide treatment, education, and establish a specific set of exercises and activities to be completed at the HPC and at your home. This program will help you overcome or compensate for your problem, help reduce your symptoms, and make you feel more safe and steady at home, at work and in the community.
